What the strategy does
Our Inclusive Economic Strategy sets out what our economy needs so that all people and places can contribute to and benefit from growth and the county’s success, whilst having a positive impact on the planet.
The strategy is based on our Economic Review which provides a robust understanding of the economy’s current strengths and weaknesses, and the best opportunities to support future economic growth.
County Durham is a large, diverse county with strong economic foundations such as our large manufacturing and education sectors, innovative and growing businesses, improving visitor offer, and our landscapes and heritage. But as a rural county, we need to help people to access education, training, and work and to start and grow businesses.
Our long-term strategy aims to build on our solid foundations and ensure our economy is more inclusive and greener by 2035.
